Kevork Mourad & Kinan Azmeh "Home within"

Two equally dynamic forms of artistic expression, music and painting, are combined in a majestic experience, through the compositions of Kinan Azmeh and the paintings of Kevork Mourad, on the Alternative Stage.

Kevork Mourad was born in 1970, at a small Syrian town. The artist with the Armenian origins, received his MFA from the Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts in Armenia, and he now lives and works in New York. He has participated in art festivals and exhibitions, while through the art of spontaneous painting he has worked with many world-class musicians.
Born in 1976, the composer and clarinetist Kinan Azmeh amazes with the rich and unique sound of his distinctive sound across different musical genres. His compositions include several works for solo, orchestra, and chamber music, film, live illustration, and electronics. His discography includes 3 albums, several soundtracks and many collaborations.

During the 60-minute audio-visual performance, Home Within, art and music develop in counterpoint to each other, creating a reflection on the Syrian revolution and its aftermath. Rather than following a narrative, the artists document specific moments in Syria’s recent history and reach into their emotional content in a semi-abstract way.
