Mélanie De Biasio

One of the most intriguing artists of the modern European jazz scene, Mélanie De Biasio, performs in Greece for the first time, on the Canal Stage.

The classically trained flautist and vocalist will present old and new pieces of her work in a musical night that connects times, places and sounds.

Mélanie De Biasio studied classical dance and flute before discovering her love of singing. She studied music at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven and graduated with distinction from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

In 2007 she released her first album, her second in 2013 and her latest in 2016, titled Blackened Cities. All of her albums have been critically acclaimed, and her work in its entirety is characterized as sensual in its simplicity. In 2015 she received the European Border Breakers Award.

Taking inspiration from a post-industrial landscape, a backdrop of unexpected hope rediscovered in cities such as Manchester, Detroit, Bilbao and Charleroi, De Biasio and her ensemble provocatively explore European jazz, soul, pop, electro, trip-hop, and classical crossover.
