Raised in Ierapetra, Crete, the Director of the GNO Ballet discovered his love of dance when he was still young. He studied for two years at the National School of Dance in Athens and later received a scholarship to continue his studies in Lausanne, at the École-Atelier Rudra-Béjart. Since then he has worked with the best dance groups internationally, standing out for his dynamic choreographies.

Andonis Foniadakis choreographs the dual performance and divides the stage between the discipline and rigid structure represented by the corps de ballet of the Greek National Opera and the unconventionality and freedom of independent modern dancers. Although different in style, they both share the love of dance. Combining and balancing contrasting elements of the two genres within complex choreographies, is a trademark of Foniadakis.

The Canal’s water, with its liquidity and purifying force, as well as the powerful sounds of Philip Glass from iconic works Koyaanisqatsi, Façades, company movements I & II from quartet no2 and Symphony no 3 contribute to this magical experience.
