On Display-Athens | Heidi Latsky & Apostolia Papadamaki
ON DISPLAY / ATHENS is a deconstructed art exhibit/fashion show- a commentary on the body as spectacle and society’s obsession with body image. Members of the disability, performance, and fashion worlds are often stared at and objectified in their daily lives.
Reverting the gaze is integral to this installation by choreographer Heidi Latsky, which will be presented at the SNFCC in collaboration with Greek choreographer Apostolia Papadamaki. The tenuous and complex relationship between viewer and viewed permeates the daily life of people who are different in some physical way and hence draw attention to themselves whether they want to or not. This relationship is explored though a sculpture court where the performers are the sculptures.
Audience members are invited to photograph, film, tweet, and post their walk through, using the hashtag #OnDisplay. Out of respect for the performers, this should be done from a distance and without a flash.
