Lisa Hannigan & s t a r g a z e
When Lisa Hannigan, a mysterious figure with a crystalline voice, sang backup for Damien Rice in 2001, everyone wanted to know her name. This year, she’s appearing at the Summer Nostos Festival with s t a r g a z e, the famous collective of European classical musicians. The Irish singer—whose voice we’ve heard on many film and television soundtracks, including the Oscar-winning soundtrack for the film Gravity—and the European musicians—with their unique ability to make forays, from their roots in classical music, into pop, folk, and electronic music—will perform new approaches to Hannigan’s songs.
Her latest album, At Swim (produced by The National’s producer Aaron Dessner), immediately won over the critics, with The Telegraph noting, “Her voice is an incredible instrument, drawing on both opera and folk, with a softness and intimacy that is never didactic.” In May 2019, a recording of the concert she gave in Dublin together with s t a r g a z e will be released.
Coming to the Summer Nostos Festival with Lisa Hannigan is the enterprising network of s t a r g a z e, founded in 2013 by renowned orchestra director Andre de Ridder. The members, all distinguished musicians, don’t only act as an orchestral collective, but also as curators who initiate and commission projects in the fields of contemporary pop, electronic, and classical music.
