Athens Photo World: World Press Photo 2021 Exhibition
Athens Photo World (APW) presents, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), the World Press Photo 2021 exhibition, featuring the photographs shortlisted in the international press and documentary photography contest that takes place annually to mark the most significant moments and stories of the year gone by.
This year, the World Press Photo contest received 74,470 entries by 4,315 photographers from 130 countries. The work featured in the exhibition belongs to 45 photographers from 28 countries who made the final shortlist across all categories.
The six photographers nominated for World Press Photo of The Year are Evelyn Hockstein (U.S.A.), Mads Nissen (Denmark), Oleg Ponomarev (Russia), Luis Tato (Spain), Lorenzo Tugnoli (Italy) and Valery Melnikov (Russia). The nominees for Press Photo Story of the Year are Chris Donovan (Canada), Antonio Faccilongo (Italy) and Valery Melnikov (Russia). The winner of this year’s World Press Photo of the Year Award will be announced on April 15.
Greek photographer Angelos Tzortzinis is one of the nominees in the long-term projects category, for his photography project “Trapped in Greece”.
