Rebetiko night at Kafeneio

Vasilis Skoutas, Dimitris Mitarakis, and Giannis Zarias form one of the most popular rebetiko and traditional music trios in Athens. What defines the group is its special emphasis on the natural, acoustic sound of the instruments, evoking the nostalgic era of the gramophone and recalling the Smyrna orchestras and musical sounds of the interwar period through a contemporary orchestral approach. The audience will travel to different places and time periods via the musical tradition of folk and urban popular song, featuring influences from the musical pathways of the East combined with improvisational elements drawn from Western music.
