International collaboration was at the heart of the discussions around the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Health Initiative. Leaders, health professionals, and scientists met on the stage of the National Library of Greece on Thursday, June 23 and shed light on the most important challenges, needs, and obstacles they are called upon to address through their vision and action.
The starting point for the discussion was international hospitals that have been supported through the SNF Health Initiative. Referring to the King Hussein Cancer Center, Princess Ghida Talal of Jordan emphasized the importance of best practices for effective prevention and care of cancer patients. "The collaboration with SNF has promoted excellence by providing significant assistance and offering the best cancer treatment and care to patients," she said. She pointed to the fight against cancer-related stigma and the provision of immediate health care services to refugees as the main objectives to be pursued.
She then handed over the floor to Manel del Castillo, who thanked the Foundation for the Initiative and its support to the pediatric cancer hospital in Barcelona and went on to highlight the important role the integration of humanism in the clinical workplace played in the hospital’s transformation. For the purpose of improving the hospital patient experience for children, he outlined four main contributing factors: parents, play, minimizing pain, and health professionals.
