Professor of Pediatric Neurology and Developmental Pediatrics

Graduated from AUTH Medical School in 1988 and undertook specialist training in Pediatrics at the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) University of Munich, Germany, achieving both his certification in Pediatrics as well as his doctoral degree in 1993. After further specialization in Pediatric Neurology in Germany and UK and upon returning to Greece, Professor Zafeiriou took a position as a Lecturer, Associate, Assistant and finally Full Professor in Pediatric Neurology and Developmental Pediatrics at the 1st Department of Pediatrics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2012. Since 2018, he is the Head of the Department. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications (MEDLINE) in the field of Pediatric Neurology and is a member of numerous national and international medical societies. He is a past President of the Greek Association of Pediatric Neurology, the Greek Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism, the Northern Greek Pediatric Society and currently Board Member (since 2014) of the European Pediatric Neurology Society. He has served for more than 6 years as a Member and then President of AUTH’s Ethical Committee. Since 2013, Professor Zafeiriou is a Guest Professor at the Department of Paediatric Neurology at Boston’s Children Hospital, Harvard University, USA, and currently he is Editor-in-Chief of European Journal of Pediatric Neurology as well as President of AUTH’s Committee on planning Thessaloniki’s new University Children’s Hospital funded by SNF.
