PhD in Molecular Biology
Chief Editor of To Vima Science
Dr Ioanna A. Soufleri is the editor in chief of “BHMASCIENCE”, science supplement of the newspaper “TO ΒΗMA”.
She was educated in Greece, the UK, and France. More specifically she attended the School of Biology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, she got a Master’s Degree in Plant Biotechnology from the University of Leicester, UK, and obtained her PhD in Plant Molecular Biology at the University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI) in Paris, France.
In 1997 she became a fulltime science journalist, and “TO BHMA” became the first ever Greek newspaper to have an inhouse science journalist.
For her outstanding journalistic work, Dr Soufleri has received various awards, among them the Medal of the School of Biology in Athens, and the 2005 ACE (Awarding Cancer Enlightenment) reporter award, which is given by the European School of Oncology for the best article related to cancer. In 2004, she was accepted in the Order of Academic Palms (L’ Ordre des Palms Academiques) by the French Republic for her services in promoting science education.
She regards science journalism as a form of continuous education (for both the readers and the journalist!), and that suits her perfectly.
