Full Professor for Pediatric Surgery at the University of Zurich
Martin Meuli went through Medical School at the University of Zurich and graduated in 1981. Thereafter he trained in Anesthesiology, General Surgery, Urology, Pediatrics, and finally Pediatric Surgery. Appointment as director of the Pediatric Burn Center of the University Children’s Hospital Zurich from 1989 – 2003. Between 1993 and 1995 research fellow at the Fetal Treatment Center, University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, USA.
In 2003, Dr. Meuli was appointed Ordinary (full) Professor for Pediatric Surgery at the University of Zurich and at the same time Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich (www.kispi.uzh.ch). In July 2020, Professor Meuli retired from his formal appointments and has accepted a continued Professorship at the University of Zurich to pursue his academic activities. These include in particular fetal surgery for spina bifida (open back) and clinical application of laboratory grown skin for patients with burns and other skin pathology. Martin Meuli likes to travel the world to make the acquaintance of new people, use his language skills (German, English, Italian, French, Spanish, Arabic), to dive into cultures not yet known to him, and indulge his passion to explore nature, enjoy classical music, particularly opera, and theater performances.
