Eirini Ilektra Petrou

Doctoral student, Health Ethics and Policy Lab, ETH Zurich; Research assistant, WHO

Eirini Petrou is a sociologist and bioethicist originally from Larisa, Greece, with academic roots stretching from the University of Crete (BSc) to King’s College London (MSc) and University of Oxford (PGCert). Now based in Zurich, Switzerland, she is a doctoral researcher at the Health Ethics and Policy Lab at ETH Zurich, where she explores the ethics of using generative AI in medicine. Eirini also collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO), contributing to research on conversational agents in health care. Staying connected to her roots, she also serves as a faculty member at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Bioethics Academy—a joint initiative between Johns Hopkins University and ETH Zurich—where she helps bring bioethics education to Greek audiences. She’s deeply passionate about shaping a future where technology and ethics grow hand in hand - advancing ethical decision-making in medicine and health care, while making science accessible to all. When she’s not deep in research, you’ll find her playing classical violin, recharging by the Aegean Sea, or carving down the slopes of the Swiss Alp.
