The Harmonic Sea: Humanity in Motion
June 21-28
All day
Designed for audiences of all ages, The Harmonic Sea explores how immersive media can foster reflection, empathy, and collective presence through play and participation. Through real-time interaction, spatial sound, 3D animation, and shared worldbuilding, the experience transforms individual emotional input into a dynamic communal artwork and asks: What might happen if we could see humanity not as isolated individuals, but as participants within a shared ecosystem? Created by the Texas Immersive Institute at the University of Texas at Austin, the experience invites participants to create a unique sea creature shaped by their emotional state, connectedness, and self-expression through a mobile web app. Their responses in the mobile web app generate a personalized sea creature that is released into a shared ocean environment displayed across a monumental LED wall. Each sea creature becomes part of an evolving collective ecosystem where no two sea creatures are exactly alike. The installation blends data systems, interactive storytelling, emotional visualization, and participatory design to create a contemplative experience centered on interconnectedness.
