The kafeneio (“coffeehouse”) is traditionally the place where the local community in Greece meets daily to unwind, but also to communicate, interact, and, inevitably, express themselves through music and dance. Historically, the kafeneio was the natural home for folk musicians, as well as the center of entertainment where local customs, feasts, and personal or family celebrations reached their peak.

For this reason, dance could not be missing from Kafeneio tou Gianni—this spontaneous social act that connects the community, preserving local identity and traditions. Dance is not just physical activity, but a means of expressing joy, sorrow, and unity. Through feasting and music, people remember, celebrate, and reproduce their dance heritage from generation to generation.

But you don’t need an intergenerational inheritance of dance to participate in this lesson. All you need is a sense of curiosity and a game attitude.
