Natacha De Mahieu

Natacha de Mahieu is a photographer. While studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, she became drawn to the Uyghur cause — a minority facing ethnic cleansing — and flew to Xinjiang to document their suffering. The minute she set foot in China, the political police ordered her to leave. Back to square one in Belgium. At just 23, she decided to pivot: she embarked on a 10,000 km cycling journey with the idea of exploring one of the most pressing questions of our globalized age: our relationship to “elsewhere.”
