Octave One is a Detroit-born electronic music collective renowned for its electrifying live performances. Their live sets transform synthesizers and sequencers into powerful, high-energy instruments, blending funk, house, and symphonic beats. Led by brothers Lenny and Lawrence Burden, the group emerged in 1990 and quickly became a defining force in the Detroit techno scene. The collective also includes frequent contributions from siblings Lynell, Lance, and Lorne Burden.

The group is best known for “Blackwater,” a single that has sold over one million records worldwide and remains a staple of DJ sets. Over the years, Octave One has earned acclaim for tracks such as “Empower,” “Nicolette,” and “The X-Files,” while their 2015 album Burn It Down introduced their sound to a new generation.

Beyond recording, the Burden brothers also founded 430 West / Direct Beat Records in 1990, a label that helped pave the way for the rise of independent music throughout the ’90s. Octave One is more than an electronic band; it’s an experience, one that pushes the boundaries of space, sound, and the possibilities of music in real time.
