Professor and Curator

Dr. Sozita Goudouna is a distinguished professor and curator based in New York City, renowned for her contributions to contemporary art and cultural exchange. Honored with the British Council Culture and Creativity UK Study Award in 2022, she has held influential positions including inaugural Andrew W. Mellon Curator at Performa Biennial, selected by RoseLee Goldberg in 2015 and Director at Raymond Pettibon Studio. Her internationally acclaimed exhibitions have featured artists such as Arthur Jafa, Nan Goldin, Marina Abramović, and Andres Serrano, presented at institutions including Documenta 14, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Onassis Foundation New York. She is the author of Beckett's Breath (Oxford University Press) and holds a PhD from the University of London, where she initiated the MA in Breath Studies at Goldsmiths. She has taught the MA of Arts Administration at NYU and art history at CUNY, The New School, and Pace University, and serves as treasurer on the board of Onassis Scholars' Board of Directors and AICA International Art Critics Association and ITI (UNESCO). In 2022, she founded the non-profit Opening Art Initiative in TriBeCa.
